Cruise West Bering Sea Voyage
We joined Cruise West’s Bering Sea Voyage for the first five days. This has to be one of the most interesting travel experiences you could have anywhere in the world—on par with visiting the Galapagos, or taking an exotic African Safari.
The ship sails through the remote waters of the Bering Sea, taking you to tiny, isolated villages you could never possibly reach by other means—villages that even few Alaskans will ever get to see. You see a way of life so different from our own that it’s almost unfathomable and certainly perspective-altering. There’s probably no better way in Alaska to experience native culture. They are so proud to share their way of life—in part because we visit villages where this is the only ship to call all season.
Cruise West is certainly the leader in small ship cruising in Alaska. They use the Spirit of Oceanus on this route, their nicest ship with cabin suites, a really nice dining room, a hot tub on the back deck, a small health club, and great evening lecturers. Most people on the ship had either already visited Alaska or already sailed with Cruise West on another trip. Some missed the coziness of the smaller ships that Cruise West uses on other routes, but most really appreciated the step up in luxury.
