Kincaid Park, Porcupine

The working end of a porcupine, also known as kanchee by Native Alaskan Athabaskans. The hollow, grizzled-gray quills of kanchee are used by Native craftspeople in the creation of beaded earrings and fringe for traditional clothing designs. These durable creations, based on designs perfected over thousands of years, are available in craft shops throughout Alaska.
