Just beyond Potter's Marsh, there are some pullouts on the ocean side with extraordinary views of the Inlet. There's so much to see and photograph that you can spend two hours and never get more than a few miles down the Arm! But that's no problem--remember, when you visit Alaska, sometimes "less is more." Now You Know Why They Call It A National Scenic Byway!

With this kind of mountain backdrop, it's no wonder that the Seward Highway is listed as a National Scenic Byway. This shot was made in early Spring. As summer approaches, the snowline recedes higher and higher up the mountainside. Some Anchorage adventurers kayak across Turnagain Arm, ski these mountains, then kayak back on the next high tide.
Bring Binoculars If You Have Them

If you bring binoculars, you'll probably spend alot more time at the marsh! It will allow you to view birds and their behavior from hundreds of feet away.

Photographers' Nirvana

Don't be surprised to see professional photographers spending hours trying to get that perfect shot. Potter's Marsh is an ideal place for photography, especially on windless evenings. The water is a mirror which reflects brilliant sunsets, colorful birds, and the marshes and hillside. This particular shot was taken at the far end of Potter's Marsh at the intersection with Potter Valley Drive.
Boardwalk

The boardwalk extends for a good quarter mile. This shot was taken from one point on the boardwalk looking back towards the parking area.
